Myra Visits Colorado

Just to let you guys know.. We had a BLAST in Colorado. It was gorgeously beautiful.. Just like Texas! Well not just like Texas, but the state of CO held a picturesque beauty in it’s own right. We flew into Denver from Houston.. Rented a car from Hertz (btw we got talked into upgraded to an SUV, for more money of coarse, don’t let them fool you.. there were lots of cars on the road.. seemingly apparent that they were not also equipped with four wheel drive.. hmmph). We drove into downtown Denver were we ate at this bangin’ Hot Dog place called Biker Jim’s.

We each tried a different dog, among a few other things. If you’re ever in Denver be sure to check those bad boys out, they will not disappoint. Great Food. Great Service. Great Atmosphere.

From Jim’s we headed on to Winter Park, which was about a 2.5 hour drive if I’m not mistaken. It was a lovely simple drive, no hassles at all. When we arrived at Winter Park we drove straight to Beaver’s Sport Shop where we cashed in our Groupon for 50% OFF 2-days of ski rental! We ended up paying a little extra for an upgrade here as well.. but this upgrade was well worth the money.

We loaded up our gear and headed to the Zephyr Mountain Lodge, which was totally nice and had very helpful desk service. Our room was cozy and warm, accompanied with a shweet view of the mountain! It had snowed A LOT before we got to CO and it snowed while we were there.. So you can only imagine the white winter wonderland we were living in.

Day 2 & 3 were Full of skiing.. which was amazing as well! (I feel like I have lots of only good things to say about this trip haha). Skiing was an experience in itself. My favorite trails are the slightly downhill bumpy loopy ones that go through the trees 😉 they are totally rockin’and’rollin.. you can ask Duane about the rollin’ hehe.

Ok I just realized I have one not so enthusiastic thing to say.. it’s about the Food. I was not impressed with anything at all other than the Rise and Shine Café.. We ate there for breakfast.. twice 🙂 I consider myself a breakfast guru/connoisseur. So when I say it was good.. it was delish 😉 Well worth it. I got sick from gluten/sugar/dairy overload and did not get to try the Maple Bacon Donut like I had planned for Day 4. If you know me, you know that had Day 4 gone like I thought it would.. I would’ve been basking in the ohhh so goodness of my all-time favorite pairings (well one of them at least): MAPLE & BACON!

Need I say more?

Oh btw don’t fly Spirit. They offer discounts but they stick you with the Cost of Water and the $$Charges$$ for the “No Free Carry-On Bag” Policy.. C’mon??

Ok. Ok. Done with my honest rant. On to the positive vibes. We made it Home to the great State of Texas with wonderfully enjoyable memories of cool mountain air & white powdery wonderlands. Thankful that God gave us the ability to visit another itsy bitsy piece of His creation, and that the memories we have will last for an eternity 😉

Where have you guys been lately? or Plan to Go?

Until Tomorrow…

Plant Me Now. Sincerely yours, Your Dream Yard

Have you been too busy to ponder over your garden lately? Believe me, I can relate. This time of year is kinda a whirlwind… I read an article a few weeks ago about de-stressing and working in time to relax during the Holidays. I was like “Eh, I’m fine. I feel pretty relaxed, and certainly not stressed.”

Then there was yesterday.

I got up at 5AM. Made my faithfully hearty bacon, eggs, and darkly rich & strong pot of coffee… sat down at the dining room table and had a wonderfully productive hour of quiet time with The Lord. It was so nice. I’ve been trying to be obedient in this exact thing. God has been trying to teach me how to have my quiet time first thing in the morning instead of last thing before bed.

You can believe that the 5AM struggle is Real.

But I am going to get up. And I am going to read. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, because getting up and spending time getting to know Him is according to His will.

As my mind returns to that article, I can only think… What relaxes me? And that my friends is a good question. I find myself with the natural ability to relax, but sometimes the usual “go-to’s” for de-stressing just don’t fit the bill.

As I pondered… I thought of my yard. I love my cutie-pie house and my blank-slate yard. It’s a humble abode and it fits me well. When I get the chance I really enjoy hopping on the mower and giving it a ride. Cutting my grass has always been time well spent for me. The mower is so loud it seems to be quiet. My thoughts settle and I tend to zip along with the sound of the mower’s muscular hum.

I love that my yard is a blank slate. I love that I can paint any picture I want. And believe that I’ve got a vision in mind… now to envision the pocket book …hehe 😉

cottagegardendreams

This is something like what I see. Mass plantings. Lots of Color. Doesn’t it have a sort-of wispy whimsical grace about it? In the words of Better Homes and Gardens this border planting is lush, colorful, and full of garden favorites. In true cottage-garden style, it mixes perennials, shrubs, and bulbs. One section of the garden hugs the house’s foundation, and a rose-covered arbor leads to the side yard.

Isn’t it yummy?? I think I’m labeling my vision “Modern Cottage Garden”.

What do you think about my vision? What do you see in your yard?

Can Myra’s Garden help you bring your vision to life? Come see us or Call Us today! Now’s the perfect time to get started before we get crazy supercalifragilisticexpialidocious busy when spring begins to near!

It’s beginning to feel A Lot like Christmas!

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

I’ve been noticing a lot of folks preparing for the Christmas Holidays now that Thanksgiving has come and gone… #Christmas is now trending people 😉 Lots of beautiful Christmas lights and Festively lit trees are all over Facebook! It definitely gave me the itch to do a little something in my house!

On my way home from playing some fun board games at my sister’s house last night, I was listening to the great broadcast’s that are always airing on Sunday Evening’s on 96.9 KSBJ… I just love me some Christian Talk Radio. So… they were chatting about Christmas decorations and I though “Oh how apropos! I just put out my décor today!!” … they talked about remembering the true reason for the Season (which is the birth of our wonderful Savior Jesus Christ)… I felt kinda bad that I had almost nothing to represent this in my home! #ineedanativity

Yes I have Angels… and after a few moments of thought… that’s basically it in the décor section…

I have my Bible and various devotionals set out for my quiet time study… but no nativity… no crosses… no pictures of Jesus… no north star or biblical scriptures to commemorate His life and the reason I have this glorious Holy-day to celebrate.

What I do have you can see represented in the pictures here. My home was a complete blessing provided only by God. I am thankful for the grace and mercy He shows me everyday, and I feel grateful for the moments in the car last night when He reminded me that my home is one of many places He has given me to exude the light He has placed in me. The light is a place for people to come in and See Him. I pray that I can show people exactly that!

“The Lord our God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” -Deuteronomy 6: 4-9

On the radio last night they were speaking of decorating your home in Christ and using those decorations to remember the true meaning for the season, Jesus… Tell you kids, friends, family, mail-service, strangers, share it with everyone!

They referenced Ever Thine Home for a set of “Adorenaments”…

“Use your tree to enrich your family spiritually! Adorenaments® is about more than just beautiful ornaments. Every set includes a booklet of mini-devotions to help you connect with your family and teach them the significance of each of the names of Jesus from Scripture.”

I think this is a pretty awesome way to celebrate Christ during Christmas ;)… they have all kinds of stuff for the home on their site! Some of their stuff would fit perfectly in my home 🙂 Especially the “everyday” collection!

What do you guys think? I’m excited to be reminded of the gift of Salvation God provides for us! Have you accepted gift of Jesus Christ?

I have 🙂 and it’s the Best Gift this girl’s ever gotten!

During a Time Full of Life…

Processed with VSCOcam with f1 preset

Hey you guys, good evening! I’ve missed y’all so stinkin much! Last week was cah-raze-eeeee!! We started out the week by spreading 2 loads of gravel to resurface the driveway. Then we rolled it and made it all nice & pretty & packed after the rain. When the rain let up we hung party lights, lantern lights, Christmas lights, chandelier lights… you name it we lit it up! Gotta have plenty of light shining for a beautiful par-tay! hehe.

The inside of the barn (reception hall) was looking a little drab, so we had Sarah Zernicek (from Monarch Events) come over and put her special touch on a few things. She transformed the reception & ceremony areas by gracefully hanging decorations and lighting to create the ambiance we were searching for. The Monarch Events team helped us with so many intricate details we would’ve been lost without them! Same would be said without all the Family & Friends who lended a hand, we are forever grateful for your kindhearted eagerness to help! Continue reading

It was a day to admire…

As the sun rose softly over the clouds, we basked in the presence of a very beautiful bride. Her golden skin was glowing from within, and we gathered around as her soft brown flowing hair was to be pinned. Continue reading

We’ve gotten A Lot more done today!! Draping tool in the barn where the reception will be held, painted signs for the ceremony & parking, hung some of the lighting, continued the ongoing work on our new parking lot, spread gravel, resurfaced the driveway…. The list goes on and on and on and on and on!

We are soooo exhausted. I’m sorry I don’t have much else to share with y’all today, enjoy these pics and I will share more with y’all tomorrow!

Butterflies

While I was out and about with my dogs yesterday, there were two things we were looking for… Beauty & Adventure. I’d like to think we found both!

Processed with VSCOcam with k2 preset

I found this beautiful little guy near the edge of a culvert… I almost didn’t notice him as he caught a glance from the corner of my eye. When I took a step back to examine what I saw, I thought what is that little flash of color amidst the darkness? Continue reading

Blue Agave

I’m inspired today by this beautiful bloom that was brought by the shop yesterday…

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Blue Agave is definitely one of my most favorite plants. I love how it lends itself to that “Southwestern” feel. Every time I come across this plant I picture a little stone hut, deep in the desert… a shadow casting itself on a dark open doorway, and the windows are full of tribal treatments dancing slowly in the breeze. No one has lived here for quite some time, a Blue Agave in the distance is the only sign of life. As I wander out into the distance the sun stretches across the sand to meet me, so vibrant and warm. I lean into it like a heavenly hug,  & the embrace of my Father soothes my soul. Continue reading

Beauty in My Backyard

So this nature that I found isn’t really in an uncommon place…fact of the matter is, the beauty of the Texas countryside is all around us. My “Backyard” is full of fields, cows, trees, and streams, all of which are something that we’ve come very accustomed to. The nature of the scene I’m about to describe to you is something a little different…something that can only be seen when we stop and pay attention to the little things.

The other night someone very special to me was describing the church he wanted to get married in: a really pretty, small church, sitting next to an open field with a beautiful view…All the while what he didn’t know was that I was picturing that place, and I had been there before.

Yesterday evening I took him to the place that he had described…
