As it’s time to plant our fall vegetable gardens, I thought it would be good to offer up a little information about adding Compost to your vegetable garden.

Adding Compost to your vegetable garden is a great way to add nutrients back into your soil. Nutrients fuel the veggies planted in your garden, and help restore life to depleted soils. Compost can also help retain moisture in your soil, which is a great way to reduce the amount of time you spend watering.

Here at Myra’s we are always looking for environmentally friendly alternatives to harsh chemicals. Some chemicals can remain in your soils long after you’ve applied them. To me that just sounds yucky! And it makes me wonder what kind of chemical residue has been left behind by others before me? Yikes!

So you’re thinking what’s so great about compost?? It’s a natural alternative to chemical fertilizers!

Another great thing about composting is that you can make it at home! Performing this process at home can be very inexpensive, or even free! Did I just say Free? Yes I did, girl yes I did.

Some compostable materials include table scraps, fruit & veggie scraps, eggshells, leaves, grass clippings, the list goes on and on…

If you would like to learn more about composting at home feel free to give us a Call or Come By! And if you’re thinking this all sounds really great but you’d rather purchase ready made compost…you’re in luck, we have that too!

Until Tomorrow…
