A good friend of ours gave us this great idea.. a Dear Myra’s section in the blog. You guys write in via the blog or facebook or email and we’ll answer your gardening and lifestyle questions! We are totally excited about this 🙂 So today we’re going to share with you a question that was received via Facebook.

Dear Myra’s, do you know what plant this is?

Curcuma Giant Plume

Why yes! We do 🙂 it’s called Curcuma Giant Plume! Originally from Asia and Australia, this plant can be found growing throughout a variety of conditions in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. The Curcuma elata variety of ginger can grow 4-6 feet tall and blooms beautiful plumes of flowers that usually show their pretty little faces near Mother’s Day. Divided by digging and separating, this variety of ginger grows well in pots as well as in the ground. Do know that it spreads very easily, and fast.. but if you divide it every 2-3 years you can prevent it from taking over your yard!

Hope this answers your question, and we look forward to answering more of them!

-XOXO,

Myra’s
